The route starts at the parking lot in Flachauwinkl. From there, we walk along the road for about 1 kilometer to the Marbachalm huts. After the rear Marbachalm, we pass the Anichhofalm and enter the hiking trail. We follow the switchbacks on the slope and reach the Neukar. From there, the route continues uphill to the ridge, where we finally reach the Faulkogel through the chimney. The return route is the same.
Planning & preparation: A precise route plan is recommended before every mountain hike. Information from locals such as mountain guides or hut hosts as well as hiking maps will help you with this.

The basic equipment for a hiker includes:
- sturdy, high footwear with a grippy sole
- appropriate mountain clothing
- enough to drink
- snacks for in-between
- sunglasses, sunscreen or rain protection if necessary
- mobile phone
- hiking poles
- first aid kit
