The route starts at the lower Gasthofalm (closed) and leads via a path parallel to the highway to the upper Gasthofalm (dilapidated). Here, many meters of elevation are gained over a short distance, so appropriate fitness is required. Upon reaching the plateau, a long path through the Gasthof plateau follows, which leads us directly to the Mosermandl.

Planning & preparation: Precise route planning is recommended before every mountain hike. Information from locals such as mountain guides or hut hosts as well as hiking maps help you with this.

Check the weather forecast: A must-do before every hike. The weather can change unexpectedly in the mountains. Observe the current weather conditions at: www.zamg.ac.at.

Important tips:

  • do not overestimate yourself
  • manage your strength and endurance well
  • assess surefootedness and lack of fear of heights
  • do not dislodge stones
  • turn back in time if the weather changes

Mountain rescue number: The telephone number 140 is the emergency number for alpine accidents in Austria

Basic equipment for a hiker includes:

  • sturdy, high footwear with a grippy sole
  • appropriate mountain clothing
  • enough to drink
  • snacks for in between
  • sunglasses, if necessary sunscreen or rain protection
  • mobile phone
  • hiking poles
  • first aid kit

There are free parking spaces at the Gasthofalm (not serviced).

From June to September, the Sportweltbus is the ideal feeder and return service for your hiking routes throughout the region (Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann-Alpendorf, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben, Filzmoos, Obertauern, Großarl & Hüttschlag).
